On a cold winter
night, a throng of stalwarts came to the Rabbi's house to learn about the whole
of Jewish history in an evening.
As this was a Jewish
function, we started to slake our thirst for education with soup prepared under
rabbinical supervision by our own Rabbi Adam Hill, which warmed the heart and several other
places. This was followed by hot dogs, salt beef and latkes.
We were then
entertained by Ronnie Hallibard's presentation on the whole of Jewish history
since The Creation, broken down into easily digestible chunks of time.
Those of you who have
seen the Reduced Shakespeare Company will understand when I say that some of
the minor historical details were glossed over but we all finished with a
deeper understanding of Jewish history spanning almost six millennia.
Questions afterwards
reflected the interest generated, and we finished the evening with coffee,
muffins and thanks to both the speaker and to Rabbi Hill for arranging, hosting
and catering this event.
I look forward to the
next event, and hope that even more people from the community will attend.
